MARY O'BRIEN

There's lots to keep the children busy at Prahran Market this weekend while you do some serious food shopping. Today the South of the River Community Gospel Choir will mingle with shoppers from noon to 1.30pm. Carol singing is provided by Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School choir from 12.30-1.30pm. Tomorrow there's a free animal farm, face painting and a visit from Santa, all to the backing of Stonnington City Brass band.

Movies by Moonlight

You know that summer has arrived when you see movie fans, laden with picnic hampers and rugs, heading for the Royal Botanic Gardens. Moonlight Cinema opened this week and there's some family fun to be had tomorrow night when the English-language version of Hayao Miyazaki's animated adventure Howl's Moving Castle (PG) is shown on the big open-air screen. The rug should be fine for the children, but parents can always upgrade to a comfy bean bag for $6. Gates open at 7pm and screening starts at sundown.

Moonlight Cinema, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Birdwood Avenue (near the intersection with Domain Road), South Yarra. Enter via Gate D. Adults $14, concession $12, children $10. Phone 1300 551 908 or moonlight.com.au.

High hopes

Enjoy the excitement of Westside Circus when 80 performers, aged three to 50, strut their stuff tonight. This innovative community circus will perform its Gravity show, which includes seven short works about hope.

Westside Circus Space, Warehouse 3/433 Smith Street, Fitzroy. Today, 7pm. Adult $18, concession $14, $5 children under-12 for a front row seat on the mats. Bookings: 9482 2088 or info@westsidecircus.com.

Stocking art

Crafty children can make their own Christmas stockings - at special workshops today and tomorrow at ArtPlay in the city. Children aged five to nine will learn how to make a pretty appliqued stocking big enough to hold all Santa's goodies. They can bring their own fabric or choose from what's on offer. Adults will need to help. Bookings essential. Cost $10 a child.

Today and tomorrow, 1-3.30pm, ArtPlay, Birrarung Marr, Federation Square. Phone: 9664 7900 or artplay.com.au.
